Margaret Devereaux Artley

-SAVANNAH- Margaret Devereaux Artley, 98, died peacefully at Hospice House Savannah on Monday January 31, 2011.
Born in Savannah, she was the daughter of Anita Quint Devereaux and Russell Devereaux and the granddaughter of her beloved grandmother Amelia Quint. She attended Massie Elementary and Chatham Junior High Schools and was a graduate of Savannah High School. Will Artley Jr., her favorite childhood playmate and high school sweetheart became her cherished husband for fifty years. Her beautiful home in Gordonston, which Will built for her in 1948, is filled with mementos and trophies of a life well lived. As a natural artist, she received awards for her flower arrangements, paintings and photographs. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, bridge with her friends, and time spent with her granddaughters. She was a past president of The Savannah Art Association, Ballet South, and the Gordonston Garden Club. She was a member of The Oglethorpe Club, The Savannah Yacht Club, and The Savannah Golf Club. She was a grand southern lady.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Dorothy Artley Daniels and Thomas M. Daniels, III; granddaughters Leslie Middlebrooks and Rebecca Toole; great-grandchildren Joshua, Olivia, and John Russell; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Virginia West for twenty-eight years of friendship and service and Linda and Keith Fry for their compassionate dedication to Margaret throughout the last years of her life.
Remembrances may be made to The Savannah/Chatham Humane Society, Hospice Savannah or charity of choice.
Graveside services will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery at 11:30am on Saturday, February 5, 2011.
